[Movies] Fred and Ginger Danced Till
Well, I blazed through my new fifth season DVDs in two and a half days, because I am that sad addicted focused.

There's a truly awesome moment in "A Wing and a Prayer" that I just have to babble about to anyone listening. Do we need spoiler cuts for an episode that's over twelve years old? Can't hurt, I guess.Collapse )

I just finished watching the entire set of Season 5 DVDs and I have four questions:

1) is anyone tired of  the theme song, it's really cute but I guess I have watched too many in a row?  :D
2) is anyone really pissed at Rob Morrow? I was pissed off when it first got really bad after he left right before it was cancled, but then I didn't think it mattered because I didn't think it could get better... but now... I am all pissed off now because I don't want it to end :(

Also, Do you think Marilyn's fridge is turquoise on purpose?

and did anyone else nearly cry when Maggie realized that she really loved Joel in "A River Does Not Run Through It" when she sat at the air port and listend to his tape recorder?

hello hello... I have just joined this community. My stepmum has been watching NE since I was fairly young, so I've grown up catching bits and pieces of it. Since we got Seasons 1 - 5 on DVD I've seen a fair few episodes, and I love it. So now I'm watching it from the beginning.

My fave characters are Ed and Chris. But they're all awesome. So yes, thought I'd join. Feel free to add me.

Does anyone know where I can find the song "Maggie's Theme"? Or whatever it's called. You know what I'm talking about, right guys? I love that little piano thing and it doesn't seem to be on the track lists for either of the Soundtracks on Amazon.

Thanks in advance!

Doctor 13
Hi all! I just joined the comm having bought S1-4 on DVD today (it was a bargain!). I've only watched the pilot so far, but I'm in love with the show. I was interested because of Rob Morrow, as I'm a fan of his in Numb3rs.

I was wondering if anyone can point to me where I could get some cool NX icons, please?

Thanks and looking forward to chatting with y'all...

Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me how long the period of time was between the release of the 4th season DVD and the recent release of the 5th season DVD, because I know once I get to the end of season 5 I'm going to be anticipating the release of season 6 [since I haven't seen all of them yet.] I hope I won't have to be waiting too long. I mean I know it won't take the exact same amount of time but i just wanted a rough estimate-ish.

Thanks in advance!

P.s. I'm sorry if my frequent posts are annoying, but when I obsess over things I REALLY obsess over things, haha. I can't help it. ;P
25th-Nov-2006 06:08 pm - Thanks Guys!
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to say thank you for the big response to my last post. I really REALLY appreciated everyone's opinions and I'm feeling alot better about the rest of the show. I would have responded to the comments individually, but I think it's just easier to say thank you here, haha. So thanks! :]

Alright, so basically I was surfing the net and found this website: http://www.jumptheshark.com/n/northernexposure.htm

It's just a bunch of reviews deciding when Northern Exposure "Jumped the Shark." A lot of people said that it was after Joel & Maggie finally did "it." Although I haven't even watched through all 6 seasons and I'm like, almost to the "It Happened In Juneau" episode, I find it really, REALLY hard to believe that just because the sexual tension between Joel and Maggie was gone the entire show sucked from then on out. The entire ensemble cast so far has such amazingly quirky little subplots and things that it's hard for me to believe that it ever gets unbearably bad. I personally really want Maggie/Joel to get together but hey, that's just me. I don't doubt that the show wasn't as good in it's final season as it was in it's 1st few, but did it ever really "Jump the Shark"? [Aside from the whole Rob Morrow leaving thing, I can totally understand that.]

I was just curious as to any of the opinions of the members of the community about this particular topic. Plus, some of the things the people on that site said really pissed me off... like Elaine Miles as Marilyn being a pathetic excuse for an actress. That makes me wonder if any of these people actually got the point of the show at all.

Alright, well, opinions would be appreciated. Thanks. :]

P.S. I guess it just scared me a little-- that the show I love so much is going to start sucking almost at the point I am in watching it for the first time. I just wanted to hear what actual fans of the show had to say about it. But then again, I'm not picky at all. People said Dawson's Creek [I know, call me lame, but I LOVE that show] sucked after Season 3 but I loved every minute of it.

Hey, just thought I might as well introduce myself. I'm Tally, I'm 16, and I'm Obessed with NEx. I got into it because my dad told me I should watch it, and I loved it. My fave eppys are Aurora Borealis (the first eppy with Bernard and Adam), It Happened in Juneau, Our Wedding, Ill Wind, and Old Tree. I've got the first 4 seasons on DVD, and I watch them all the time. Any other fans that started watching it after it came out on DVD?

7th-Nov-2006 09:38 pm - Another newbie post
[Movies] Fred and Ginger Danced Till
Hello! I'm another newbie who's very happy to have found this group.

I fell in love with NX about five years ago, when it was still in reruns on Hallmark. I watched every episode then, and taped several, but only just now rediscovered the show on DVD. I've been Netflixing seasons one and two, and just bought myself season three (my favorite). I've gone through twenty episodes in, uh, three days, so you can see exactly how much self-control I have in relationship to this series. I especially love the deleted and extended scenes; some of them might be worth the price of the DVDs alone.

One interesting NX-related fact about me: I recently graduated from Kenyon College, which is where the student filmmakers in episode 1.3, "Soapy Sanderson," are supposed to be from. When I saw the episode, I was of course very pleased by the reference. *g* Gambier, the town in Ohio where Kenyon is situated, always reminded me of Cicely: it's in the middle of nowhere, the year-round population is about 600 (the school adds 1600), and everyone knows each other, and usually runs into each other daily along the one street which makes up town. I loved it.

Anyway, over the past few weeks, I've been rambling on about the show in my journal. A lot of it is general squee--I'm a Maggie/Joel shipper, and it shows--but I just got an English degree, and NX offers so much analysis-worthy material (like the extended metaphor about hearts and airplanes in "Oy, Wilderness") that I can't help trying my hand at discussing it critically. If you're so inclined, I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments! :)
6th-Nov-2006 09:49 pm - hey guys!
Hi everyone!

My dad just introduced me to Northern Exposure by buying the first 2 seasons on DVD last month. I've fallen completely in love with it, it's the best show of all time. So I searched it up on livejournal and this was one of the more current communities of the show.

Since I'm a big lover of fanfic, I searched for some Northern Exposure stuff, but I couldn't really find any. I was hoping maybe a few of you would be able to point me in the right direction. I mean Joel/Maggie stuff would be great, and I'm not really into slash, nor Joel/Marilyn [doesn't that seem kindof weird to you?] but if anyone could help me out, that'd be great.

Thanks a bunch!

Hey all!

So I got Season 3 for Christmas last year, and have been making my way through the episodes. My particular favorites as of right now are Seoul Mates, A' Hunting We Will Go, and Dateline: Cicely. Any season 3 favorites of yours that you like best?
24th-Sep-2006 12:10 pm - Hi! I'm new and have some questions
Hi! I'm new here. I was a big fan of NX several years ago and had kind of forgotten all about it, until recently, when I began taking out eps from my local library. Now, my memory is jogged---WOW! What a great show!

Here's my problem, tho. My library only has a few video tapes, and I would like to purchase the entire series on dvd. I've looked several places on-line, and I see that you can buy individual seasons, but I don't see a total package of the entire series. Does anyone know if such a thing exists, and if so, where would you get it?

Also, any idea if the eps are still being shown on TV anywhere? I guess I could look this up myself, but I figured you all would know, so I hope you don't mind if I pick your brains.

Has anyone seen this new series, which people seem to be comparing to NX all over the place? (For example, a Washington Post guy in an online chat called the new show "a sorry re-tread" of our favorite show.)

Just curious....
17th-Jul-2006 12:44 am - Season 2 - Goodbye To All That
I’ve now started on Season 2 of Northern Exposure. And Goodbye To All That is a great way to start the new season. An excellent episode. The fantasy sequences, with Joel essentially talking to himself, are great. And I just loved the “outdoor cafe” scene at the end between Joel and Maggie, with Maggie playing the role of Elaine and Joel telling her all about his sex life. Wonderful scene.
14th-Jul-2006 02:51 pm - A couple of questions
Bucky airhorn (by sithkitten)

Greetings to all of my NX-loving comrades. I'm working on a little NX-inspired project, and was hoping to get some input. I'm looking for a good song (or songs) that at least somewhat captures the relationship between Joel and Maggie. Any ideas?

Also, a semi-related question... how do you all feel about the Chris & Maggie storyline that rounded out the show? Good? Bad? Odd? I'd appreciate your thoughts on that. Thanks. :-)

Hi, I'm new to LiveJournal, and I don't really know what's going on. But I've seen episodes from the first three seasons of NX. I just watched the episode where the circus comes to town, and I think that it's my favorite so far (I think it's called "Get Real" or something). I must say that I was touched by the love story between Marilyn and the Flying Man. Hey, does anyone here actually live in Alaska?

I’m now nearly early at the end of Season 1 of Northern Exposure.

So what’s your favourite Season 1 episode, and why?
